Album Rating: For sure. Not as great as Painkiller or Heaven and Hell, but still an awesome comeback album. This one is a great comeback release itself. To be honest I became interested in Bathory after hearing "Valhalla" from Hammerheart, and eventually the whole album. insanedrexl1 September 3rd

This album was originally recorded in and was intended to be the fifth Bathory album, but the album was not immediately released and had not been finished properly. Because of this, Quorthon was worried that it drastically presented a departure from the band's original black metal sound, so the project remained in the vault until it was.

Blood On Ice was actually recorded in , and was intended to be the fifth installment in Bathory’s discography. Instead, Quorthon scrapped the album in fear that it too drastically shifted from his tried and true Viking/black metal combination which was found on Blood .

I can say for certain that I think Blood On Ice is the best Viking metal album by Bathory as it's more diverse and story driven (like rock opera/King Diamond) then some of the others. I found the production to be as good as anything Bathory ever recorded. Of course it has a great CD 4/4(14).
